What Happens When You Type Half Asleep

So I was browsing through my Resume folder that I pulled off an old hard drive. Usually I label what type of resume, and who it’s for. There was a document in there that was labelled “New Microsoft Word Document”. And all I can say is, woah. I have no recollection of typing it. I suspect that I may have been trying to remember a dream- I do recall a conversation several years back where a friend and I discussed trying to remember dreams by writing them down as soon as we woke up. I drop letters and words left and right, so I must have been sleepy.

Dream.

I’m at the bus stop comparing bus passes with my sister. Up at UW, there’s goes until midnight. I open my black wallet, and a bright blue ticket stub is in the front pocket. My Berkeley. With all the times listed. The bus pass stops at 6 pm. I remark that all the shops close down early, so the bus also stops early. I’m in farm country.

Suddenly I’m in front of a strange house. I know this is where I used to live with my family, but
Weird house, torn down, apt with strange lady, 330 / sq ft

Going to grad school. In mathematics. Prof Schilling. Trying to figure mathematic relationship between planet and leaf

Run off to grad school classes. Realize don’t know what classes I’m taking. Rush off to use computers in a room a few doors down, bump into a female teacher consulting with two other adults. It’s really like a kindergarten, room, the desks are so small. But there are a row of MACs. I race over and grap a pink post it pad, but I have to remove all the post its with writing on them already before I can find to blank ones. The post it’s I peeled off had strings of numbers on them- nothing I knew. I grabbed a red pen, but no computers work. Run around in building until find a class. Sit in and hope it’s mine. Teacher calls on me to tell about self. I stumble at first. She reprimands me I speak again.

Name
Plant genetics grad student and math grad student
I sometimes like punk music (someone scoffs)
I like fuzzy pajamas
I’m done

It is at this point I realize I still have my retainer on.

I think it’s kind of funny that I rediscover this when I’ve just started grad school. But mathematics grad student?? At least I stuck in plant genetics grad student at the end. I guess being a crazy math grad would be useful if I wanted to determine the mathematical relationship between planet and leaf. Hehe..

Maybe I’ll try writing down my dream next time I have one to see what I come with.

Cactus Jules

As a thank you for coming in on the weekend to rescue samples from our malfunctioning -80C freezer, I was given this round cactus ball by my prof. By given, I mean it was thrown at me while she said, “Catch!”.

Now back to work

Gonna eat you!

My mom got me a pitcher plant that I brought to work. I can’t say how long it will last, but it looks happy after one day. For those of you who don’t know, little flies go into the pitchers… and never come out! Mwahahahahaaaaaa…

Also, the stache is gone. Good riddance!

The ’stache

Well here it is. The end product. Took me a while to shave off the beard this morning. But it was obviously worth it. ;)

Maybe someday I can compete with these fine gentlemen.

Beard Update

Well there it is. The end result of my beard growing adventure. I’m planning on chopping it all off on Monday and rolling with just a mustache for a day. Sure it will look silly, but it’s something that needs to be done. Perhaps I’ll take a picture of that.

Also, this weekend my dad is going to play drums at my aunt’s fundraiser. Woot!

I’m Flying to Seattle this Weekend!

I’m planning on visiting my siblings this coming weekend in Seattle. Which shall be fun.

Unfortunately, my sis will be studying for her LEED exam (unless she decides to postpone it) this weekend. Alas. But hopefully I’ll get some good oyster and crab eating in with the siblings. Mmmmm… oysters. I’ll also be visiting a high school friend that I haven’t seen in years! We first met during swimming class at the YMCA when I was in elementary school. I proceeded to kick her sister in the face while swimming the front crawl. I swear I didn’t know anyone was behind me! And I didn’t even know their names. In high school orchestra, we met once again. Her first words to me were, “Oh, I remember you! You’re the one who kicked my sister in the face!” So not a great first introduction. Haha… but it will be good seeing her again. Good times, good times.

Hopefully I shall also be working on my grant proposal for fellowship applications this year. I really need to get cracking on that, because the applications are due early november! I’d like to have a good working draft by sunday so that I can bring it in and get it torn to shred by the profs that be. It’s nice that I have some preliminary data to include though~ it makes this proposal seem slightly more feasible when you actually have something to go by.

The Beauty of Life

I stumbled across this short today and thought it was pretty good. Enjoy.

Wanted: One Misplaced Brain

My mind seems to be somewhere else today, because I seemed to forget everything I was supposed to do, except to go to orchestra rehearsal. Even my sleep was filled with random restless and strange dreams. This morning, I was preparing a reaction and forgot one crucial clean up step. So I had to repeat it from scratch, because, well, that little step was rather important. Secondly, I forgot that I was supposed to meet someone for lunch. So I completely blew that one as well. Thirdly, I forgot that I had A CLASS today. So I spent the day obliviously working in lab, blissfully unaware of the greater workings of the world. Then a concerned classmate asked why I had missed class. Face #1: (O_o); Then Mike messaged me that I blew off a lunch date. And then my face went like so: (o___O);; along with some of this: #%*&&!!! Oh well, at least my cloning worked. Perhaps that means tomorrow will be better.

I think I need more sleep. Preferablly not filled with dreams where I’m still unsuccessfully trying to isolate the same clone 3 months later.

Beard Update

Here’s a update on the beard status. Oddly enough I’m wearing the same shirt that I was wearing for the last picture.

I think it’s coming along quite nicely. Not much to say about it. Still itches, Jules still doesn’t like it, and it still makes me look cool. ;)
