Happy *sneeze* New Year

So to bring in the new year I’ve got a headache and I feel kind of dizzy actually. Wonderful huh? So I turned down a few things and opted to stay home tonight. I’ll just cuddle up with some tea and watch a movie or play some games or something. I took a couple of excedrin earlier for the headache, which helped for a little while but it seems to have come back. :(

In any case, here are some quick resolutions for this year:

  1. consume less - I think I would be better off eating smaller portions and buying fewer games and random things.
  2. camp more - Jules got me an awesome stove and my Dad got me a water filter. I’ve been wanting to get both items since I went on my Mount Whitney hike a while back. Now I have everything I need to go backpacking without relying on other people’s gear.
  3. create more - This year I’d like to create more. Instead of a drawing class maybe I’ll just get a sketchbook and bring my pencils around with me. I’d also like to dust off the camera and try that out again. Maybe some hand written letters are in order. Also, the journal is getting dusty.
  4. pay yourself first - That’s something my Dad would tell me when I started working. I’ve never really been good at saving any money but over the past couple months I got a pretty good game plan together which I should be able to stick to.
  5. cook more - My mom got me a Cuisinart food processor and I’ve already made the most uniform zucchini and bell pepper slices ever. As a side note I really need to get this blade and disc holder before I cut myself grabbing for something in the cupboard.
  6. ride better - I’d like to be a better motorcycle rider. That doesn’t mean faster or crazier. I just want to be able to handle the bike well enough for it to be automatic and more enjoyable for me and eventually my lovely passenger Jules.

That’s it for now. I’ll get Jules to post some too. :)

Happy New Year everyone!

On Using Protection

icon-legs.jpgicon-shorts.jpgtrack-pants.jpg

Jules and I went shopping today and among some other less important things, we picked up some armor! I want to do some more riding on the weekends when it’s sunny and I’ve been using some crappy leg guards. I decided it was time to throw down some money and pick up more protection. I got the leg guards and shorts pictured above from Cycle Gear today and I’m going to buy my brother’s track pants (also pictured above) from him over the weekend.

Maybe the next thing I’ll get will be a mini DV camera to take some video of the rides I go on. :)

I’m Back

So my finals finished last week, but I’ve been too lazy to post. Mike, his mom, his little bro + little bro gf, and I went to see the Nutcracker at the Paramount again this year, this time from the vantage point of the mezzanine. And I think I like it better- I could see the formations a lot better. Mike had been preparing for the Nutcracker by listening to Tchaikovksy’s Nutcracker Suite over and over for the last two months. When I was in junior high, I remember borrowing the cassette tape from the library and listening to the music over and over because the music was so beautiful. I hadn’t actually seen the ballet until last year. While I enjoyed the performances, the music is what sticks with me more. Go Tchaikovsky! Woot woot!

IE8 Passes Acid 2 Test; Mike Still Sad

Recently the Internet Explorer development team posted that IE8 passes the Acid 2 standards test. Having spent a lot of time working around rendering issues in IE, I feel like I should be happy about this. I think I would be happy if everyone used the same browser. But unfortunately that’s not the case. I would even settle for all IE users updating to IE8 when it comes out. Hell I’d settle for an update to IE7. Alas, even though IE8 is standards compliant, I still have to work my way around IE6. And the chain of browsers is only as strong as the weakest link. :(

Horton Hears A Who

Oh Dr. Suess, how I love thee.

Operation Lucky Bag

During “Operation Lucky Bag” the police left shopping bags, backpacks and purses scattered around the subway system. Then they sat back and watched the items. Anyone who took one of the items and then walked past the police officers without reporting it was arrested. These items were valued at a few hundred dollars, at the most and therefore the “crime” of picking them up was a misdemeanor.

Well that sucks. Although, with all the ‘look out for suspicious bags’ warnings around BART, I probably wouldn’t pick up a bag anyway. I might say… “LOOK OUT! SUSPICIOUS BAG!” And then there would be chaos. At the debriefing the chief would ask the officer, “So, why were you putting suspicious bags around the station again?”

Okay that wouldn’t happen. Oh well.

Yahoo! Year End Party

I haven’t written much lately and this isn’t going to be my big comeback post, but I thought I’d put this picture up from the holiday party.

That is all. Hopefully more posting in the near future.

Hidey Hole

I’m crawling into my cave for the remaining week until finals. Hermit Jules GOOOO!! That is all.
