I was contemplating buying this shirt from anthropolgie, because it looks like something I would wear. However, the political tendencies of the the owner, Richard Hayne, don’t agree with me. He also happens to own Urban Outfitters. He generally keeps his politics well hidden, and supports only safe causes through his companies, such as breast cancer research. From his clientele and offered merchandise, you might suspect that he was a left leaning, anti-establishment, liberal, hipster type. Instead, I found out that he was a rather conservative republican who obviously understands marketing to the disposable-income-masses. He hires hipsters to find the new trends and set the tone. He has donated around 12k to the infamous has-been senator Rick Santorum. Granted, if you compare thisĀ to his yearly take, 12k looks like chump change. In case you don’t know Rick Santorum was a pennsylvanian senator, popularly known for his anti-abortion, anti-homosexual stances.
Many of the women in my orchestra are fluid and openly lesbian. It’s a great orchestra to be in, because everyone is so warm and welcoming. When we were in florida for the music gala, we happened to pass by an urban outfitters. I started to wonder- would you support a store if you new the founders/ mission statement did not align with yours? Or would you continue to buy stuff because you like the style, regardless of who runs the corporation? I feel like there are many queer/liberal/left leaning folk who shop and work at urban outfitters near my university. I wonder what they think? If they’re aware? And if they are aware, what their justifications are? Something to ponder…
This frustrated me for like an hour today. The problem is that in JavaScript, arrays are treated like objects and are referenced when you really want to clone them. See embed.
Found this better version of the Rossi vs Stoner battle from Laguna Seca by the people at MotoGP.com. However, they disabled embedding. Why would you do that? Who runs that stupid motogp website? What a bunch of jerks. Their website is subscription based, and their content on youtube is embed disabled. Here I am trying to promote their content and they don’t even let me.
Unfortunately I liked the video enough to work around the disabled embedding… *sigh*
update: okay i guess i can’t embed it like that… back to MotoGP.com being jerks.
“It’s because they’re crazy,” she muttered under her breathe as she impatiently darted from lane to lane under the grass-is-always-greener freeway mentality. On the radio NPR was previewing a segment on increasing motorcycle rider fatalities despite lower overall traffic accidents. Yes, I’m sure they all must be crazy and it has nothing to do with car drivers. Well, at least we motorcycle riders check our blind spots. I’ll think I’ll skip her the next time she comes up as my casual carpool driver.
Went with the Cho siblings today to Muir Woods and Stinson Beach. The redwoods were as grand as ever, except one which fell recently. It was a big one too. It fell over one of the trails near the entrance so I wonder what they’re going to do with it.
We were pretty touristy and took lots of pictures of the hollowed out redwoods that you can stand in. After the redwoods we traveled north to the Hog Island Oyster Farm where we picked up 50 fresh oysters of various sizes. With seafood in tow we traveled back down to Stinson Beach and spent the rest of the afternoon scarfing down grilled oysters, corn, veggies, potatoes and cheesecake.
After the eats we bore witness to the most people I’ve ever seen on Stinson Beach. But… lame-o me didn’t take a picture of the masses. So this crazy Cho picture will have to suffice.
After all of that we drove back to Oakland, freshened up, and then went out to Mangia Bene out in Martinez for some delicious eats. Now I think it’s time for a nap.
Jules and I are in Oregon this week for a wedding. I just thought I’d drop a note and mention that it’s really pretty up here. Not too many flowers blooming right now, but the grasses are all very big and green (much to Jules’ dismay) and the weather has been pretty nice.
The other day we went for a local hike with Jules’ parents and family friends and once we we past the treeline it was like we were in another world. The trees and foliage were dense for most of the hikes, but some parts thinned out and you could see a hundred yards or so of foresty goodness.
Jules and I took the featured picture after the hike when we were waiting for everyone to catch up. More pictures soon perhaps!
Yay, I’m back after cave status for awhile. Yesterday, my class finished a written test for our last required class ever. To celebrate, we all headed over to Devin’s apt, had a barbecue, chilled out, and played some Bang! One game took quite awhile, but it was fun. His place is so amazing~ I want a lemon tree!
Afterwards, we all headed out to Albany Bowl, but the wait was 30 min to an hour because of all the league bowlers! We decided to head out to Albatross instead to play darts. I was pretty horrible at first~ the darts didn’t even make it to the board! Though they did make it everywhere else- bouncing back to my feet, sticking in the carpet, the posters underneath the dart board, the wall… BUT I got way better as we played more games. Candice and I kicked butt in the end! We got 3 bulls eyes pretty early on! And consistently hit the high numbers. That was awesome.
It probably helped that we were the two completely sober DDs in the group. But hey~ Playing darts also demonstrated yet again how truly nerdy we were. We changed our team names every round on the scorekeeping chalkboards. Matt, Devin and Emily called themselves MeSA (hormone that instigates plant defense, among other things). We (Candice, Josh and I) combated by calling ourselves SABP2, the esterase that cleaves MeSA. They counteracted with MeSA +SA, which we countered with SABP2 + JA (jasmonic acid antagonizes SA plant defense). And so the cycle goes.. We are nerdy… yeah…
So all in all, I spent around 12 hours straight with these guys. And I have to say that I love hanging out with my class~ you couldn’t find a better group of people who get along so well. We’re all so different, but we all mesh really well together. How lucky am I?
