New Years Resolutions for Jules

Now that I am food comatose, I shall work up some new year resolutions for myself.

1. I tend to lose my keys around the apt because I misplace them and forget where they are. I’m going to try to be better about putting my keys on the key hook as soon as I get home.

2. Play more violin! Self explanatory :P

3. I’m sometimes laggy in responding to friends, and I’d like to do a better job responding to them, by phone, email or letter. I’d also like to write more letters to people this year. I think that it’s nice to receive letters every now and then- it takes more effort than email.

4. Try to run/walk once a week, and do more push-uppy sit-uppy lunge-uppy things at home in between the run/walks.

And that is all I can think of for now ^_^ Happy New Years!!

Happy *sneeze* New Year

So to bring in the new year I’ve got a headache and I feel kind of dizzy actually. Wonderful huh? So I turned down a few things and opted to stay home tonight. I’ll just cuddle up with some tea and watch a movie or play some games or something. I took a couple of excedrin earlier for the headache, which helped for a little while but it seems to have come back. :(

In any case, here are some quick resolutions for this year:

  1. consume less - I think I would be better off eating smaller portions and buying fewer games and random things.
  2. camp more - Jules got me an awesome stove and my Dad got me a water filter. I’ve been wanting to get both items since I went on my Mount Whitney hike a while back. Now I have everything I need to go backpacking without relying on other people’s gear.
  3. create more - This year I’d like to create more. Instead of a drawing class maybe I’ll just get a sketchbook and bring my pencils around with me. I’d also like to dust off the camera and try that out again. Maybe some hand written letters are in order. Also, the journal is getting dusty.
  4. pay yourself first - That’s something my Dad would tell me when I started working. I’ve never really been good at saving any money but over the past couple months I got a pretty good game plan together which I should be able to stick to.
  5. cook more - My mom got me a Cuisinart food processor and I’ve already made the most uniform zucchini and bell pepper slices ever. As a side note I really need to get this blade and disc holder before I cut myself grabbing for something in the cupboard.
  6. ride better - I’d like to be a better motorcycle rider. That doesn’t mean faster or crazier. I just want to be able to handle the bike well enough for it to be automatic and more enjoyable for me and eventually my lovely passenger Jules.

That’s it for now. I’ll get Jules to post some too. :)

Happy New Year everyone!

I’m Back

So my finals finished last week, but I’ve been too lazy to post. Mike, his mom, his little bro + little bro gf, and I went to see the Nutcracker at the Paramount again this year, this time from the vantage point of the mezzanine. And I think I like it better- I could see the formations a lot better. Mike had been preparing for the Nutcracker by listening to Tchaikovksy’s Nutcracker Suite over and over for the last two months. When I was in junior high, I remember borrowing the cassette tape from the library and listening to the music over and over because the music was so beautiful. I hadn’t actually seen the ballet until last year. While I enjoyed the performances, the music is what sticks with me more. Go Tchaikovsky! Woot woot!

Hidey Hole

I’m crawling into my cave for the remaining week until finals. Hermit Jules GOOOO!! That is all.

Mountain Mike

The last time I grew out my facial hair was when I went backpacking at Mount Whitney. And that was only a week. Behold!

This is closer to a month. Maybe three weeks. I don’t really remember. It’s a little sparse yet and Jules doesn’t particularly like it, but it’s a growing experience that every man should have.

West Side

I’ve been meaning to post about this Oakland Crimespotting website for a little while now. They gather information once a day from Oakland’s Crimewatch and then put it on a fancy map. It looks like my area has been relatively safe over the past month. But I think I’ll still try to get home before dark.

Come to think of it, they should have a time of day filter so I can see when the killing hour starts.

A Little Post

In between Mike’s flurry of posts, I shall write a little note to say that I’m off to the yearly Departmental academic retreat today at Granlibakken Resort at Lake Tahoe. It should be fun, and full of academic presentations, nerdy games and nice scenery. Woowoo~ I shall bring my camera and be back by sunday night.

Reading and Eating

I’ve been reading Anne Rice’s most popular vampire novels in one handy volume- Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and The Queen of the Damned. I actually really enjoyed the first two- I have yet to start on the last.

On other notes, the basil in my planter has been growing rather well, so I decided to take advantage of this and the mozarella and tomatoes I had on hand.

2:27 AM

So it’s 2:27 AM and I can’t seem to fall asleep. Whenever my mind is stewing over something troubling before I go to bed, I stay awake for hours. Usually, I fall asleep within minutes, and nothing can wake me. I am particularly immune to the sounds of first person shooters and video games in general- Just ask Mike. He’s lucky I have this skill, though it probably does me no good when there is an earthquake.

So here I sit, at the bottom of my bunk bed, staring at the wall. I guess it’s time for try #2.

I think I’ll sleep well tomorrow.

Projecting confidence

windsor07.gifToday is Jules’ friend’s wedding. So we’re getting gussied up to head on over. I bought a shirt and pants and just to add a little spice, a tie, for the occasion. I don’t normally wear ties. I can’t even remember the last time I wore one. So I had to look up how to tie the tie. The website I found had several knots to choose from but I just clicked on the first one, the windsor knot. After tying it I read the description. “The Windsor Knot is a thick, wide and triangular tie knot that projects confidence. It would therefore be your knot of choice for presentations, job interviews, courtroom appearances etc.” So today I shall be projecting confidence at the wedding.

I’m bringing my camera, so you may get to see some pictures of pure, unrestrained confidence.
